Every month is a new opportunity to find things to be in love with—I mean, every day is, but when it comes to clothes, I like to manage timelines with a little less turnover. More than that, each new month brings new weather, new occasions, new life events, etc., so let’s get into what I’m loving for January.

Big Ass Coats

It’s winter, and I live in Boston. If you’re not familiar, there’s something that feels especially desolate and frigid about January, more so than any other winter month. The wind is stronger, the ground is icier—going outside can feel like an exercise in avoiding hypothermia. It’s so easy to fall into the trap of boring or slouchy outfits in an effort to stay warm, but that’s not what I’m feeling this month. But I’m also not feeling hypothermia, so what I’m loving is big ass coats. Cool fur coats, crazy colorful puffers, long printed coats—if it’s over the top, I’m into it. My current favorite pieces are a bright blue teddy coat that vaguely resembles Cookie Monster, and a long cheetah printed fur coats with a pink collar and cuffs.

I’m really loving an over-the-top coat with a super casual outfit—making the coat a focal point makes the whole outfit feel so effortless but so fun.

The UnCapsule Wardrobe

This is a January love, but also a 2025 love. Especially with the rise of quiet luxury, there’s been a lot of talk about capsule wardrobes in the last year or two. I love the idea of a capsule wardrobe—buying pieces you can wear again and again, buying things that really work for you instead of giving into every micro trend that flits past. What I don’t love about the concept of a capsule wardrobe is the way it seems to rely on basics and neutrals. We all need certain staples in our closets, obviously, but the uncapsule wardrobe is about building a closet full of high-quality, long-lasting pieces that you really, really love. Things that fit your personal style. We seem to have this fear of outfit repeating when it comes to bolder pieces, and I want to shirk that this month. Investing in a piece doesn’t mean it has to be something simple. Invest in pieces that align with your style and the type of dresser you want to be. The uncapsule wardrobe is a closet full of quality pieces you feel proud to wear—it’s a closet full of pieces that represent you.

Casual Sparkles

I’ve already done a full article about the casual sparkle, but truly, I can’t get enough of it right now. Sequins and metallics as a part of everyday looks—I just find it so fun and so cool, and with winter dragging on, I need some fun in my outfits.

A sequin midi skirt with a sweater and boots, a metallic pant with a simple tee, sparkle-laden micro shorts with tights and a leather jacket. I’m convinced that, outside of maybe a formal gown, there’s no sparkle too sparkly that it can’t be styled into a casual outfit. More sparkles this month, and honestly, all of 2025.

Whacky Shoes

The theme of the month seems to be fun, and shoes are no exception. Patterned and colorful boots are a huge obsession of mine right now—an animal printed kitten heel, a studded stiletto, a bright red suede boot, a modern metallic western boot. I’m loving shoes that when I see them, I have to actually consider whether they’ll look cute or a little insane. I’m currently obsessed with this pair of knee high Cynthia Rowley boots—they’re slouchy black leather, covered in bronzey gold studs with a wedge heel that arches underneath the boot itself.

I think what I’m really seeking this month is things that feel interesting, even if that interest veers slightly into odd territory. The bold pieces are calling to me so much more than they usually do, and I honestly do think it has to do with the cold and drab weather. I’m letting clothes bring the fun and excitement to the frozen tundra that is January.

As always, this is what I’m loving this month, so take what you love and leave what you don’t. If you’re still feeling the comfy cozies this month, rock them. At the end of the day, my January loves are about what’s making me feel good right now, and maybe they’ll help you feel good about your January closet, too.
