‘Tis the season for all things shimmery and shiny. The holiday season is practically built on sparkles, and there’s nothing more fun than stepping out in your best glittering outfit. More often than not, we tend to associate sparkles with special occasions. A big holiday party, a night out, etc.
But I’m a big believer that glittery, sparkly clothes aren’t occasion-specific. While they work wonderfully when you’re looking to get dressed up, there are a million and one ways to style your favorite statement sparkle moments in an everyday ‘fit. So how do we do it?
Denim (H2T)

The easiest way to dress anything down: denim. I love the idea of pairing a metallic top with a classic jean and simple cardigan. Adding pops of color through the outfit give the whole look a lively feel that suits the vibe of the sparkly top without veering from the casual look we’re going for.

But let’s not limit ourselves to just jeans. Whether it be a sequin skirt or metallic pant, shimmery bottoms pair perfectly with a denim vest top or fitted denim jacket. Denim on top is underrated as is, but I can’t get enough of a cute denim top with something over-the-top and sparkly.
Knits (Duh)

Another straightforward way to dress down any statement piece: a sweater. I personally love leaning into a cute and quirky aesthetic—like with a cute print or pattern—to add to the casual vibe. Sleek sweaters can run the risk of looking a little more dressed up, so I find it’s best to lean the opposite way. A cutesy, chunky knit is the perfect pair.
Light & Bright

Key to a casual daytime look: light colors. Building your outfit with lighter tones, and even colors more associated with spring and summer like pastels, can be the perfect way to bring your sparkly pieces into a daytime look.
A plain white tee with a glittering skirt—the two pieces balance each other out, especially when paired with a slouchy bag and chunky boot.
All in the Fabrics
Fabrics and textures are a huge part of what vibe your outfit projects. Sticking with cottons and linens are the perfect way to dress down your sparkly pieces.

I love doubling up on casual textures—layering a knit over a cotton button down, and adding a suede bag in for good measure. Adding the right textures in with your accessories is hugely important, too. A suede tote feels more casual than a leather purse, a lace ballet flat more so than a patent one, and so on and so forth. The accessories are the perfect way to add some more interest to the outfit without drawing attention to far from your sparkly centerpiece.
Sparkles have always been so much more to me than special occasion-wear. Maybe I love the extra work that goes into making those pieces work within a casual outfit, or the gratification when the outfit comes together. But there’s something so special about an everyday outfit with that touch of shimmer, glitter, or metallics.
As the holiday season continues, I hope that I’ve given you a bit of inspiration in re-utilizing the sparkly pieces you normally save for this time of year’s special occasions. As always, take what you love, and leave what you don’t—but I hope you’ll be taking a bit of sparkle into tomorrow’s outfit.
