My ins & outs for summer ‘25: clothing, and otherwise.
IN
Crafts and having cutesy hobbies: making your own jewelry, trying embroidery, learning to crochet, painting for fun, taking an online course in astrology—the most interesting people try new things for fun!
Ethically-made crochet: Summer layering is everything, but only when the pieces we’re layering with are ethically made!
Sending photos of your drinks in the group chat: Every time you get a pretty cocktail (or mocktail) it goes straight to the GC. It’s an easy and fun way to keep up with your best friends when you’re not all together.
Mixing gold & silver jewelry: You’ll never convinced me that mixed metals aren’t chic as fuck.
Embellishments for heels & sandals: I’ve been seeing sparkly little flower or butterfly clips to go on the ankles or tops of your strappy heels and sandals everywhere, and I’m beyond obsessed. What better way to refresh your existing shoe collection?
Revamping old pieces of clothing: Cut those old jeans into shorts, turn those button down shirts into a weirdly cute midi skirt, and tailor that top that never quite fit right but you missed the return window for.
Clothing rental services: Nuuly and Rent the Runway were MADE for summer—or maybe I just think so because I’m a Leo and have lots of summer occasions to shop for. Instead of buying statement and occasion pieces that I’ll wear for one-time outings, I just rent them.
Fresh flowers: Vases full of flowers in every room! Ever-changing pops of color! Brightening up our living spaces!
Jewelry inspired by fresh flowers: Not to bring crafts back into this, but learning how to make a tulip charm necklace out of beads was probably my most fun project of the year so far.
Antiquing: Drive to a slightly spooky, half-mile long antique store in Vermont and buy weird trinkets, cool glassware, and potentially-haunted furniture and decor.
Seashells: In every way. Seashell earrings and pendants. Seashell prints. Handbags covered in beaded seashells. (Ethically) collecting seashells at the beach.
Gifting silly crafts: Sorry, it’s craft-girl summer over here. Currently working on making all of my friends embroidered scallop shells out of beads. It’s so fun gifting my friends silly little gifts on random days of the week!
Shift dresses: A little linen babydoll dress is the perfect casual piece to just throw on—and so easy to dress up or down. Paired with a sneaker and a tote bag and baseball cap for errands, or a strappy sandal and beaded bag for a cocktail with friends.
Beads & sparkles: Beaded bags and jewelry, sparkly dresses, massive sequins, sparkly eyeshadow, body glitter, etc. Stand out!!
Anklets: A summer essential that I refuse to forget about.
Prints prints prints: Polka dots, obviously. I’m currently locked in on an Allina Liu set printed with flowers, oysters, lobsters, and clams. Have some fun with your outfits this summer!
Weird purses: If you haven’t seen the fish shaped purse in the last set of outfits I styled, it’s currently up on my TikTok and the homepage here, under the Beachy Baby collection.
Framing photos: Take a million photos, and print them, and frame them. And god forbid we decorate the frames ourselves (more crafts)!!
Dramatic runways: Roberto Cavalli brought campy fun back to the runway last fall when he showcased his S/S 25 collection, and now it is S/S 25, so we’re embodying that energy. Fashion is fun, we’re embracing fun and silliness and dressing how we want.
Summer layering: Linen button downs, ultra-open knits, crochet boleros, etc.
Tiny skirts: The shorter the skirt, the harder you’re fighting conservatism.
Overdressing: Why NOT wear a massive pair of heels, or a super glam dress? We only live once. Dress it up.
OUT
Shopping one-time wear pieces: Boring! Shop smart, and rent for one-time wear.
Falling for microtrends (that you’ll never really wear!): Especially if you’re shopping them from ultra-fast fashion sites whose pieces fall apart after one wash.
The Boston uniform: Like I said, we’re having FUN with our outfits this summer. Let the jeans and black bodysuit rest, at least until the winter.
Fashion > comfort: Bold outfitting must be done responsibly! Discomfort is the quickest way to knock your confidence in an outfit, and the whole point of fashion is to feel your most confident!
Overthinking social media: Stressing about what you post is over. Hit post and move on!! Your cute photos, little videos, and various adventures deserve to be seen (no matter how many or few followers you have).
Dating Apps: Flirting IRL is the moment. Cleanse yourself from the instant-gratification addiction. Ever heard of the summer of outside??
Limiting accessories: Coco Chanel once said that before you leave the house, to look in the mirror and take off one of your accessories (hello paraphrasing). But not this summer. Pile on those bangles, throw on another necklace, tie a scarf to your purse. Let your outfit be loud!
Bad texters: There is just no excuse, sorry!
Quiet Luxury: Speaking of noise—quiet luxury is dead. Buying neutral trousers from SHEIN was never quite luxury, anyway. Hunt for cool pieces you really love, and dress like you mean it!
Nonchalance: Amaya didn’t win Love Island for everyone to go on pretending they don’t care about things!! Caring, and showing it, is cool and refreshing. Pretending you don’t give a fuck is boring and OUT. Tell people how you feel, be proud of what you love, wear what you want, and lock in on living.
