I’ve covered Guizio before in a brand highlight, and today I’m featuring one of their signature pieces, the Micro Mini Stretch Skirt. An ultra simple wardrobe staple, this skirt had been on my shopping list for quite a while. At $78, it felt slightly on the pricier side for what it was, and so I held off on purchasing. In the long run, though, not buying it ended up being a lot more expensive than $78, and that’s because I spent god knows how much on god knows how many “cheaper” alternatives that never fit exactly how I wanted them to, or worked in my outfits the way I wanted them to work.
The great black mini skirt struggle of 2024 was part of what led to my conceptualization of the UnCapsule Wardrobe—one tenet of which is to commit to finding a piece that fits exactly how you want it to, and not buying something that’s almost right.
So finally, towards the end of 2024, I pulled the trigger and bought the skirt. It was exactly the low rise fit I wanted, and just the right length. Short, but not so short it feels unstylable. It’s also fitted, but with enough flare towards the skirt hem that it feels like a piece that can be worn casually. It addressed every issue I’d had with previous black minis—not low rise, too fitted, crassly short. It’s also incredibly comfortable—the waist feels almost seamless, and the fabric is buttery soft. The waistband is elasticized, but doesn’t have a wide elastic band that shows through the fabric and it doesn’t cut into the skin. The skirt is 75% nylon and 25% spandex. It has a built in panty lining—different from the built in shorts you often see on skirts like this one. It doesn’t provide as much coverage, but I find that sometimes the built in shorts peek out from under the skirt. With this lining, the skirt stays in place, never riding up too much or shifting around.
When it comes to styling this skirt, I love how effortlessly it slides into outfits. It’s perfectly neutral, and can be easily dressed up or dressed down.
One of my favorite ways to style this piece is with a fitted long sleeve top, especially a knit. The balance of proportions it creates has a distinctly ‘90s and ‘00s feel to it that I love. Pairing it with a classic knee high black boot is simple and chic, but I also love a ballet flat for a more casual look. I think sometimes, it can feel difficult to style a mini skirt with any shoe other than a boot—it can feel like you’re showing too much leg for the outfit to be casual. I think keeping an outfit simple is one way to combat that feeling—or going fully in the opposite direction. If I were to style this with a sneaker and go super casual, I’d pair it with a colorful sneaker—like my pink and red Puma’s—a button down layered under a knit, and a denim or leather jacket. A burgundy leather jacket would be a great way to tie in the color from the sneakers and bring the whole look together.
I love this mini skirt with an oversized top, because the skirt doesn’t get lost in them. It’s just long enough that it doesn’t disappear under an oversized piece, like the dramatic-collared blouse I paired it with. I love the simplicity of the look, with the lines of the blouse being eye-catching but clean, and the skirt serving as a background player. I paired the look with a simple kitten heel to maintain that theme—long, simple, uninterrupted lines. When it comes to pairing this piece with an oversized knit, the vibe is a little different. Rather than clean lines, we’re leaning into the slouchiness of it all. That’s why I went with a tall foldover boot—the shoe is so structured, it balances the look effectively. The sweater I went with is a great piece for this mini skirt because of the way the hem cinches at the hips—it aligns with the skirt naturally, balancing the proportions without any need for a belt, tucking, etc. If I were to style a sweater with a more straightforward oversized silhouette, I’d most likely add a thin, neutral belt at the waist to create some semblance of shape and silhouette.
The Guizio Micro Mini Stretch Skirt is one of my favorite purchases of 2024, and not just because it fits so seamlessly into my wardrobe, and not only because it’s the piece I’d been hunting for for months. I love that it spurred me to really commit to my vision of taking time to curate exactly the closet I want for myself, and to be patient when it comes to finding exactly the piece I’m looking for.
