Winter is here and with it, new styles to fall in love with. The colder weather brings new layering options, stunning coats, gorgeous sweaters, and some unexpected styles to mix in with all of those classic winter pieces. So let’s get into what I’m obsessed with for this winter season.
Patterned Tights: Tights are a mini-skirt lovers godsend once the temperature starts to drop. And while I love a classic sheer black tight, these days I love tights that make a little bit more of a statement. Whether it be a lacy pattern or a literal statement (Saint Sass tights, anyone?) it’s such an easy way to add some interest to your outfit.

To me, tights are the bridge that make my favorite fall pieces wearable in the winter. Specifically, they keep all of my favorite shoes in the rotation. While it’s always easy to throw on a boot to add a little extra warmth to your outfit, I love the way a cute pair of tights works with my favorite kitten heels—I get to maintain style without sacrificing comfort. And without having to wear out the heels of my boots too quickly.
Dramatic Coats: I live for an over-the-top coat. I like them so much I’m almost sad when the warm weather makes its comeback every spring. Bold colored puffers, patent leather trenches, big fur collars, and the list goes on.

I love coats as a means of elevating an otherwise straightforward outfit. A simple LBD or casual jeans-and-tee outfit is made fun and effortlessly cool through a statement coat. Right now, I’m really liking long, mixed media coats like this denim piece with its oversized fur collar.
Micro Shorts: I know what you’re thinking! It’s winter, where would you possibly wear micro shorts? But this just brings me back to my earlier point about tights and layering in creative ways.

I don’t personally love wearing micro shorts in the summer, but I do like them in the winter when I can throw them on with a pair of tights or an oversized coat for a little bit of extra coverage. To me, it makes the shorts feel like a more elevated moment than they would otherwise. I think I also just like the fact that it’s a slightly unexpected piece for the season—a lot of my best outfits come from styling pieces that I have to work a little harder to make work.
3D Accessories: This pick may have come from my obsession with fiber art, but I’ve been loving big, 3D accessories.

Crochet brooches, oversized bracelets, purse charms—anything fun and bold that adds volume to your look.
You might be sensing a theme here—I’m leaning towards fun and maybe a little over-the-topness for my winter trend picks. When it comes to winter style, I want my outfits to be more fun and creative and bright than maybe any other season. It’s about bringing balance to all that cold and darkness.
Textured Knits: Specifically, knits with patterns stitched into them.

I love how intricate and detailed they look, and it gives a polished, deliberate vibe to slouchy, comfy sweaters.
This can be as simple as a few varied stitches like in the argyle sweater styled to the left, or as detailed as the Heart You sweater styled at the top of this article. I just loved the dimension that varied stitches add to a knit, whether it be to form an actual design or just add a bit of interest to the piece.
Putting together outfits in the winter can feel like labor. It’s cold, coats are cumbersome, and there isn’t much about getting dressed that feels easy. When it comes to my winter style, I just want to bring a bit of fun back into it. Take what you love and leave what you don’t, but I hope this inspires a bit of joy back into your winter wardrobe.
